The Gritstone Club is a medium sized, Northern based, climbing club which originated in the early days of Yorkshire gritstone and pothole exploration.
Club members still climb on local crags but we also organize weekend and longer meets in Scotland, Wales and the Lake District for both summer and winter climbing and walking.
During recent years we have extended the rock climbing season by organizing trips in Spring and Autumn to Spain and France.
Club Members are also interested in "bigger rock" and mountaineering ascents in larger mountain ranges and Alpine meets are well attended by both climbers and walkers.
Walking has always been a significant Club activity and this extends into mountain navigation events and fell running.
Members participate in a wide range of activities and we have caving meets and usually include for ski touring in Scotland or abroad.
We are a mixed club in all respects with a wide range of interests and abilities.
The club owns a superb hut in the Lake District and a smaller one in the Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales for the unlimited use of Members.
We also have reciprocal arrangements for the use of huts belonging to other clubs.
Membership applications are considered by the Committee after an individual has attended three weekend meets.
Membership provides access to the facilities of the British Mountaineering Council, third party insurance, copies of Summit magazine and discount at many equipment suppliers together with access to an extensive fund of knowledge and experience.
