I have wanted to run The Monte Rosa as a 170km 12000m D+ race for three years now. It began at 4 pm on Thursday 7th September, starting in Grachen (Switzerland).
The Duddon really is a very pleasant and unspoilt valley with plenty of low level paths and access from High Moss to the hills and crags
On Saturday, Andy and David drove over to the fastest drying crag that came to mind, namely Raven Langdale. The rest of the party had beautiful walk over Rannerdale Knotts beside Crummock Water.
Haggs Bank Bunkhouse and campsite at Nenthead was the venue and provided excellent modern facilities. Saturday saw the 4 cavers enjoy a 6 hour trip up the very long and wet but beautiful Fairy Hole Cave in Weardale
This impromptu meet at the Smithy was threatened with mixed weather (the MWIS forecast was ‘appalling’) which did not deter those present from venturing out…….
