Gritstone Club 100 Anniversary Summer Event at the Smithy

We need you!

Please come and join us for a celebratory weekend based around The Smithy, Thirlmere from 15 to 17 July 2022. Your guests are very welcome, and we hope to have a large party of old and new members alike gathered to celebrate the Gritstone Club’s 100 years of outdoor activity.

We have booked the Thirlmere Recreation Hall for additional accommodation (air bed / sleeping mats required) and there is some camping / van accommodation available at The Smithy and the Recreation Hall. Also, High Bridgend Farm campsite is just next door for tents.

We are planning a Four Crags/Tops escapade for the Saturday. The exact locations will be decided depending on the weather, but previous meets have tackled routes on Boat Howe, Great Gable, Green Gable and Gillercombe, for example, with the walkers taking in Kirkfell, Great Gable, Green Gable and Brandreth, hopefully meeting up with the climbers occasionally. So, plenty of walking and climbing, ideal pre-alpine training and a challenging, sociable day out.

This will be followed by a communal meal in the evening, utilising a wood-fired pizza oven. If the weather is inclement, we can meet and eat in the Recreation Hall.

On Sunday, there will be a fun score navigation challenge for those that way inclined with suitable options for all from sedate walkers to fell running gazelles.

The cost will be a flat rate of £15 per person for accommodation and a communal meal on the Saturday evening.

Please could you email the organisers (smithy@gritstoneclub.org.uk) if you can join us, so that we can manage the accommodation and organise the food. Please indicate any accommodation preferences and dietary requirements.

Looking forwards to seeing you in the Lakes on 15 July!
